Kyiv — The Ukrainian police did not record any infringements of the law during the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus. So declared the first assistant minister of internal affairs, Mykhailo Kliuiev. “Not only were there no considerable violations, but there were not even little violations of civil order,” he said during a press-conference on 29 July 2008 in Kyiv.

Kyiv—The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the information released for the media on 25 July by the Russian Federations’ Information and Press Department, which contained an evaluation of recent events in Ukraine. The Ministry’s address says that it “is concerned over the report published by the Russian side” containing evaluations that are “not corresponding to the facts, and are too politicized and not objective.” According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially “unacceptable and alarming” are the ungrounded accusations from the Russian side of alleged “disrespectful treatment” of “the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) during the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus.”

The Mother-Church, the Constantinople Patriarchate, can propose a calculated and historically fair model for progress… two assignments: renewing Church unity in Ukraine and recognizing the national status of the Ukrainian Church.” In the declaration, the UOC-KP underlines that the goal is to “unite Ukrainian Orthodoxy and to recognize the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.”

Kyiv—The Universal Patriarch Bartholomew I arrived in Ukraine. Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople was met at the Boryspil Airport on 24 July by Ukraine’s President, the highest state officials, the delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) led by its head Metropolitan Volodymyr, Archbishop Hieronymos of Athens and all Greece, the delegation of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) and Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC).
In his address at the airport in Kyiv, Patriarch Bartholomew noted: “We have came to pray together with you for the unification of all the Orthodox citizens of Ukraine in one Church, the Church of your people, the Church of your state.”
