Conference About Kyivan Church Becomes “Little miracle" 23.09.2008, [10:27] // UGCC //
«For me the most important thing, which I felt, was the atmosphere in which a serious, expert talk was conducted about very concrete, scholarly themes. They are well known, but the people whom we invited came to it with competent, professional positions. It seems to me that just this moment of professional talk about very narrow themes of theology, the correlation of national and ecclesial identity and confessional and canonical tradition, created a great impression. This atmosphere in which the conference was conducted encouraged the participants to be sincere, and this is the most important result, which was not planned artificially, but became a result of the serious approach to very important problems.» So said Oleh Turii, director of the Institute of Church History of the Ukrainian Catholic University, summarizing the results of the international scholarly conference «The Kyivan Church: Ecclesial tradition – historiographical problems – ecumenical prospects.» The conference by the plan of the organizers considered problems in church history and was to help determine whether it is possible and how far it is necessary to have a consensus regarding the historical past of the «Kyivan Church» for sake of the present understanding and uniting of its heirs; it took part in Kyiv on September 11-14. Its inspirer and direct participant was Patriarch Lubomyr Husar, Head of the UGCC.
