UOC-KP Orthodox Head Meets International Family Congress Organizers in Kyiv

Kyiv—Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, on 11 April 2006 greeted at his residence the organizers of the 22nd International Family Congress. In addition to Ukrainian organizers, also present were Dutch and Belgian royalty.

The organizers of the congress, being planned under the motto “The Family, a Community of Love,” talked in detail about the event to be held in Ukraine and invited the patriarch to speak at it. Patriarch Filaret said that the problem of keeping families together and raising a healthy new generation is one of the most important tasks for European civilization. He added that, if the issue of healthy norms is not absolutely settled today, then European civilization will soon be ruined. Consequently, he said, he welcomes such a congress.

The congress will be held in Kyiv from 9 to 11 May 2006 under the patronage of European and world organizations involved in issues of the family. Representatives of the majority of Christian churches and government and civic organizations are taking part in preparations. The organizing committee expects more than 1000 people to take part in the congress itself, including sociologists,
