Transcarpathia – The Uzhhorod City Territorial Election Committee has registered Fr. Dmytro Sydir of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) as a candidate for mayor of southwestern Ukrainian Uzhhorod. ua-reporter.com posted the news on 13 February 2006.
According to Volodymyr Demedchuk, deputy head of the committee, Fr. Sydir proposed his own candidacy. On 31 March 2002 Fr. Sydir was elected deputy of the Regional Council in Transcarpathia. He is also a candidate for national deputy in Ukraine’s Parliament for Natalia Vitrenko’s National Opposition Bloc. Parliamentary elections in Ukraine are to take place on 26 March 2006.
