Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Head Visits US

Metropolitan Mefodii (Kudriakov), head of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), on 14 February 2006 began a visit to the United States. The metropolitan was invited by Metropolitan Mykhayil (Javchak-Champion), UAOC archbishop of New York, and the faithful of the UAOC in the USA. The visit is to end on 23 February. As part of his visit, Metropolitan Mefodii is to celebrate Liturgies at parishes in New York state.

According to the press service of the UAOC, the metropolitan is visiting the US during the 15th jubilee year of the third resurrection of the UAOC following the Soviet domination in Ukraine. The UAOC has several million faithful in Ukraine, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Western Europe, Asia and Africa.

This historic visit of the head of the UAOC worldwide is the first such visit to take place since the death of Patriarch Mystyslav (Skrypnyk) and the brief visit of Patriarch Dymytriy (Yarema), notes the UAOC press service.
