Lutsk – On 23 December 2005, a session of the Volyn Council of Churches (VCC) was conducted in the building of the Regional Administration in northwestern Ukraine’s Volyn region (VRA). This was the first meeting of the leaders of the largest Christian communities in Volyn, where Christians of different denominations are willing and able to work fruitfully to solve common problems and to respond adequately to the challenges of today, which they proved by their actions, as the press service of the Volyn Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate reported.
Church representatives discussed the preparation for God: Rich in Mercy, a Christmas charity marathon; an address to the heads of the VRA and Volyn Regional Council regarding the setting of prices for gas and utilities for religious organizations at the level of the tariffs for the general population; and an address concerning the observance of Sundays by Volyn Christians.
The Christmas charity marathon God: Rich in Mercy, the first joint project of the VCC and the VRA, will take place on 17 January 2006. The whole day church choirs will sing Christmas carols in the regional Taras Shevchenko Musical-Dramatic Theater.
The address of the church leaders concerning the observance of Sunday by Volyn Christians is directed at local heads and deputies, organization leaders and business people, reminding them about the proper celebration of this day and asking them to conduct trade on other days of the week.
