Zaporizhzhia– At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Yurii Lutsenko, Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs (MIA), Archbishop Vasyl (Zlatolynskyi) of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopil of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate spoke about long-lasting cooperation between the Zaporizhzhia Eparchy of the UOC-MP and the regional department of the MIA. pravoslavye.org.ua posted the news on 24 October 2005.
Archbishop Vasyl reported that priests of the UOC-MP’s Department of Cooperation with the Armed Forces give regular lessons to armed forces personnel and celebrate molebens (prayer services) for them. The archbishop himself lectures on spiritual topics for future police officers.
Lutsenko thanked the archbishop and priests of the eparchy for their assistance and support of the personnel of the ministry. He pointed out the important role of the Orthodox church, not only in the assistance of the MIA but also in the prevention of crime. The minister presented an award of the MIA of Ukraine “For assistance” to Archbishop Vasyl.
