“Long Way to Go,” Say Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishops

16.09.2005, [21:06] // UGCC //

Kyiv (CNS) -- Ukrainian Greek Catholic bishops said citizens of their country must "not shrink from the hard work needed for our chosen aims." They said last winter's Orange Revolution, in which a disputed presidential election was won by President Viktor Yushchenko after being invalidated by the country's Supreme Court, failed to "fulfill expectations." "Even after gaining independence, our nation did not obtain absolute freedom, since we could not rid ourselves of past burdens," the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church's governing synod said in a statement released 10 Sept. "We still have a long way to go before everyone becomes aware of their responsibility before God and the nation," the bishops said. Catholic News Service posted the news on 15 September 2005.
