Kyiv – The Christian Democratic Party of Ukraine (CDPU) has promised to help the Ministry of Education introduce the subject with the working title "Religious Ethics" into school curricula. “Only thus will we be able in the long run to build a society based on Christian principles and promote tolerant relations between people,” said Vitalii Zhuravskyi, leader of the CDPU. This news was posted on 27 July 2005 by umoloda.kiev.ua.
Zhuravskyi thinks that the subject should be studied in years one through three, at least once a week, giving consideration to the wishes and the denomination of the parents. In this issue, he advises that the experience of other countries of Europe be used.
According to Zhuravskyi, a course on religion is taught in 80% of elementary and secondary schools in Ireland, while basics of Orthodox faith are mandatory in all schools of Greece, and in Germany religious education is considered one of the traditional public school disciplines.
