Presidential Decree Liquidates State Religion Committee

Kyiv—A decree of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has officially liquidated the National Committee on Religious Matters. According to the presidential press-service, the functions of the committee have been transferred to the Ministry of Justice. ww2yuschenko.com.ua posted the news on 22 April 2005.

“The liquidation of the National Committee on Religious Matters is connected with the need to improve the system of executive organs, to ensure that the obligations Ukraine took on before the Council of Europe are carried out, and is in accordance with Article 106, §15, part one of the Ukrainian Constitution,” the decree reads.
