Kyiv- The Chancellory of the Kyivan Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) released a circular letter making it clear that only documents that come out of the chancellory are legitimate. This was in response to recent “attempts to politicize groups of the faithful.” The press service of the UOC-MP publicized this news on 29 November 2004.
“In recent days,” reads the announcement from the UOC-MP press service, “attempts to politicize groups of the faithful have increased, and their informal leaders try to release statements, conduct actions, standing prayer services or ways of the cross [moving prayerful demonstrations]. [These events] claim to have the blessing of the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church[-Moscow Patriarchate].
“In connection with this, the Chancellory of the Kyivan Metropolitanate of the UOC[-MP] has released a circular letter of the head of the UOC[-MP] to archpastors, assistants and heads of monasteries, to heads of parishes and other priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church[-Moscow Patriarchate]. The letter states that ‘all orders and resolutions of the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church[-Moscow Patriarchate] and the Holy Synod of the UOC[-MP] are made public in places only through the Chancellory of the Kyivan Metropolitanate. All other independent statements of brotherhoods, sisterhoods and civic organizations in the name of the head of the UOC[-MP] have no legal force and do not need to be carried out,” reads the official address of the Chancellory of the Kyivan Metropolitanate of the UOC-MP.
