The President of Ukraine Focuses Attention on the 1020th Anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus

Kyiv— Press-secretary of the President expressed that the head of the state is focusing attention on the preparation of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus celebration. Viktor Yushchenko believes that the recognition of this date “has to become one of pushes to the beginning of a wide dialogue in society, a step to the unification of all Orthodox churches.”

In regards to the preparation to the celebration, the President will lead a line of discussions (among them through the telephone) with heads of the main Christian confessions of the world, expressed I. Vannykova.

Furthermore, in the words of I. Vannykova, the organization committee for the preparation and commemoration in Ukraine of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus—created in correspondence to the Decree of the President from 24 March 2008—discussed actions which will take place surrounding this celebratory date.
