UOC-MP Commemorates Berestechko Battle Heroes at UOC-KP Monastery

02.07.2008, [14:17] // UOC-KP //

UOC-MP Commemorates Berestechko Battle Heroes at UOC-KP MonasteryRivne—On 29 June 2008, Patriarch Filaret celebrated a liturgy at St. George’s Monastery on Cossack Graves, which, according to the press service of the monastery, was attended by over twenty thousand people. It has already become a tradition for representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) to come to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate’s (UOC-KP) monastery to celebrate a requiem for the Cossacks killed at Berestechko. RISU’s Ukrainian-language web page posted this story on 1 July.

This year a delegation of nuns from St. Mykolai’s Women’s Monastery of Horodok and priests and monks from the Mezhyrytskyi Men’s Monastery of the Holy Trinity celebrated a requiem and prayed at the Berestechko heroes’ sepulcher.

According to a report from the press service of St. George’s Monastery, the head of UOC-KP Patriarch Filaret gladly accepted the visit of UOC-MP nuns and monks to pray in the monastery.
The press service representatives stress that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate does not close its doors to representatives of other Orthodox Churches, and hope for equal treatment. According to UOC-KP monks, one can hardly imagine UOC-KP clergy celebrating a requiem at the Pochaiiv Monastery or at the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves.
