Head of Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church Receives Award From Ukrainian President

Kyiv—On May 8 2008, Ukrainian president Victor Yushchenko awarded the Head of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church (PAOC), Metropolitain Sava (Hrytsuniak) of Warsaw and all Poland, with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th Degree. According to Yushchenko’s order (424/2008), Metropolitain Sava received the reward “for his personal contribution to in the establishment of good neighbourly relations between Ukraine and the Polish Republic and his fruitful Church activity of many years.”

According to the PAOC website, Metropolitain Sava was born on 15 April 1938 and was ordained a bishop in 1979. He is of Ukrainian descent and was born in the Kholm region.
