Ukrainian Translation of Liturgy of the Hours Unveiled

Chernivtsi—Prominent ethnic music and folklore expert and composer Kuzma Smal of Bukovyna presented a large book of Church liturgical songs and hymns entitled “Liturgy of the Hours.” Five years in the making, the book is a collection of hymns translated from Polish. RISU’s Ukrainian-language webpage posted this story on 7 May 2008.

The book contains 250 Church texts. A shortened version of the Liturgy of the Hours was published in spring 2008. The 900-page book was published by the Catholic Media Center in Kyiv and blessed by Pope Benedict XVI.

Lviv Metropolitain Cardinal Marian Yavorskyi noted in the book’s preface that it should be considered “a model for all Roman Catholic dioceses.”
