Kyiv— The Chief Rabbi of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, Asrael Haikin, made a public address on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Israel’s proclamation of independence. RISU’s Ukrainian-language webpage posted this story on 7 May 2008.
The address stressed the importance of the holiday not only to Ukrainian Jews, but millions of Ukrainians wishing the Jewish state peace, happiness, and success.
“I call everyone, Jews and non-Jews alike, to pray for peace to be established in the Middle East as soon as possible and for the prophecies to be fulfilled, for all peoples to live in peace and prosperity according to the will of the Almighty,” stated the chief rabbi. “On behalf of all Ukraine’s Jews, I would like to wish the state of Israel and all Israel’s residents all the best on this day.”
