Roman Catholic Bishop Ordained in Odesa

Roman Catholic Bishop Ordained in OdesaOdesa— On 3 May 2008, Fr. Herkulian Petro Malchuk, auxiliary bishop of the Odesa-Simferopol Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), was ordained a bishop at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God in Odesa. Lviv’s Roman Catholic Metropolitan, Cardinal Marian Yavorskyi administered the ordination, for which 14 bishops travelled to Odesa.

The ceremony was also attended by Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Ivan Yurkovich, several RCC Bishops in Ukraine, Bishop Anton Kosha from Kyshyniv, bishop Vasyl Ivasiuk, UGCC exarch of Odesa and Crimea, Franciscan brothers from Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania, representatives of Orthodox and Evangelical Churches, as well as representatives of Odesa’s municipal and state administrations, deputies, and diplomats.
