Simferopol— Mufti Adzhi Emirali Ablaiev, head of the Spiritual Direction of Crimean Muslims, refused to participate in a joint action planting trees in the Alley of Friendship of Nations in the city of Simferopol, in southern Ukrainian Crimea. He explained this by the fact that the position of Crimea’s leaders on the rights and needs of believers “is of a selective character varying from religion to religion.” So reported obkom.net.ua on 10 April 2008.
In particular, in his open address to the head of the Crimean Parliament, the mufti reminded him of the opposition of Simferopol city authorities to allocating land for construction of the Assembly Mosque at 22 Yaltynska Street.
