Uzhhorod— The Sub-Carpathian Rusyn Council headed by Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC-MP) priest Dmytro Sydor made public on 28 February 2008 a statement in response to the recent official warning from Ukraine’s Security Services as to possible act committed by him which qualify according to Ukraine’s Criminal Code as encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The statement terms the Security Services’ warning “provocative.” With reference to Ukraine’s Constitution Article 34 on freedom of speech and thought, the statement asserts that “there are no criminal components in the priest’s words, but there is a clear corpus delicti in the Ukrainian Security Services’s provocative statement of 27 February 2008...”
Acccording to a report from Zakarpattia.online, the Council’s press service states that the Security Services’ warning “was made in the spirit of Soviet repression of the 30‘s and was made public by neo-NKVDists” (former KGB).
