Ukraine Security Services Officially Warn Priest Who Seeks to Separate Transcarpathia from Ukraine

Kyiv— Ukraine’s Security Service officially warned one of the leaders of Sub-Carpathian Rusyns, Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate priest Dmytro Sydor, as to possible actions committed which qualify according to Ukraine’s Criminal Code as encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. This information was made public on 28 February 2008, at a press conference by Security Services’ spokeswoman Maryna Ostapenko, reports proUA agency.
Dmytro Sydor campaigns for the autonomy of Pidkarpatska Rus (Trans-Carpathian Region) within Ukraine’s borders. Recently, he made another statement as to “the right of Pidkarpatska Rus to self-determination.”
