Kyiv— Ukraine is strategically important in God’s plans and in “waking up” the world. So said Pastor Aleksey Ledyaev, leader of the Latvian-based New Generation Church, a controversial Pentecostal movement. He spoke during a service in Kyiv on 27 January 2008.
“There is now a unique and blessed atmosphere of freedom in your country,” said Pastor Ledyaev. “As believers you have to understand that such a time should not be wasted.” He called his listeners to education and an active civic position.
Ministers of other churches were present at the service.
Protestants in Ukraine have various attitudes regarding the New Generation Church. For example, Bishop Mykhailo Panochko, president of the All-Ukraine Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith - Pentecostals, during a 14 November 2007 webconference on RISU said: “the essence of the ‘new world order’ teaching [of the New Generation Church] does not correspond with Gospel teaching.”
