Lviv Brotherhood Recommends National Assembly of the UAOC Autocephalous Orthodox to Overcome Church Crisis

24.12.2007, [16:31] // Orthodox //

Kyiv – The Lviv Brotherhood of St. Andrew the First-called Apostle issued a decree dated 15 December 2007 which supports the decisions of the 4th National Sobor (Assembly) of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) and accepts Metropolitan Constantine (Bahan) as the only spiritual head of the UAOC in Ukraine and the whole world and Archbishop Ihor (Isichenko) as the administrator of the UAOC.

In its statement, the Brotherhood accuses Metropolitan Mefodii (Kudriakov), head of the UAOC, of unlawful seizure of power and leading the UAOC in Ukraine “toward a schism and today’s sad state of affairs.”

The Brotherhood view the only solution to the crisis as a summoning of the regular National Assembly of the UAOC which would be presided over by Metropolitan Constantine (Bahan).

The Lviv Brotherhood requests that Metropolitan Constantine and the Eparchy of the UAOC in the diaspora ordain those candidates “who are devoid of canonical or psychological dependence on the synodal tradition of Moscow Patriarchy” bishops of the UAOC in Ukraine, and that he appoint a pre-assembly committee to prepare for the National Assembly of the UAOC.
