Orthodox Ukrainians in Mozambique Have Bishop

06.02.2007, [14:36] // Orthodox //

Orthodox Ukrainians in Mozambique Have BishopMaputo (Mozambique) – On 28 January 2007 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangel Gabriel in Maputo, Bishop Theodoros was enthroned as bishop of Mozambique. Ukrainians make up part of the Orthodox community in the country, as correspondent Dmytro Yatsiuk reports. Bishop Theodoros became the head of the newly-created eparchy of Mozambique, which will belong to the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

The Ukrainians in Mozambique mostly come from eastern Ukraine, so many of them are Orthodox.

Fr. Georgii Zolotenko, who has served in Mozambique since 2003, is now expecting transfer to another Greek Orthodox parish, in neighboring South Africa, most probably to Capetown.
