Kyiv— Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), has asked the state authorities not to “provoke the people” before Easter. So he wrote in address posted on 22 April 2008 by ugcc.org.ua.

Kyiv– According to I. Vannykova, press secretary of the president of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone about the exhibition of sculptures and icons from Yushchenko’s private collection to be opened in Moscow on 6 May, the elaboration of the agreement on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian border, and the work of the Ukrainian-Russian interstate committee. Lviv— The state authorities of the city of Stryi, in western Ukraine’s Lviv Region, made a unilateral decision to increase the annual charge for rent of land on which churches are already located or are to be built, up to 70 thousand hryvnias (approximately US $ 14 thousand), without discussing the issue with religious organizations. So reported the press service of the Stryi Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) on 21 April 2008. The eparchy also posted a special address to deputies and other authorities in this regard.

Kyiv—On 19 April 2008, a round table discussion entitled “Christian values in Ukraine and Euro-integration” was held in the Spiritual Revival missionary center in Irpen. The discussion was organized by the Spitirual Revival association, the international internet ministry Baznica.info, and the Other Europe Institute (Latvia) and amassed the participation of religious study experts, theologians, representatives of Protestant churches, and leaders of civil movements. According to the organizers, the meeting’s main subject was the challenges of euro-integration to Christian identity and traditional values.
