Transcarpathia – The monks of St. Michael’s Monastery in the village of Hrushevo, southwestern Ukraine’s Transcarpathia Region, are accused of conducting unsanctioned archeological digs in the monastery and have been threatened with imprisonment. The monks justify their actions saying they have been blessed by the Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). 1tv.com.ua posted the news on 27 June 2007.

Kyiv – The Kyiv City Council (KCC) on 26 June 2007 allotted the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) land in the Troieshchyna area for the construction of a chapel. Another recent decision of the KCC continued land rental for the Roman Catholics. And the KCC is looking for a site on which the Armenian Apostolic Church can build.

Kyiv – On 20-21 June 2007 in the village of Zarvanytsia in western Ukraine’s Ternopil Region, the 33rd session of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv-Halych Major Archiepiscopate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) was conducted. Among other things, discussed and ratified were decisions regarding the pastoral situation in the east of Ukraine and the action “For a sober life.”

Sumy – The Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) in northern Ukraine’s Sumy Region does not agree with the decision of the regional council (SRC) to transfer Trinity Cathedral to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). Turkey – On 26 June 2007 as part of an official visit to Turkey, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople in Istanbul. Among the topics discussed were the formation of a single Orthodox church in Ukraine.

Volodymyr-Volynskyi – On 24 June 2007, Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), visited northwestern Ukraine’s Volyn Region. He celebrated a Liturgy at Holy Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr-Volynskyi at which Volyn Governor V. Bondar was present. During his visit, the metropolitan also venerated the relics of the martyrs of Kholm and Pidliashshia.

Lutsk – On 23 June 2007, Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP), visited central Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Region. In particular, he visited the villages of Ruzhyn and Pryberezhne where he was met by Orthodox clergy, representatives of the Zhytomyr Regional Administration, and the local community.
