Lviv — On 28 February 2007, Christian Initiatives for Europe, with members throughout the European Union, released in various countries of the continent through the print media their manifesto “Let us rediscover the meaning of the European Project.“ The Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University in western Ukrainian Lviv also was involved in the endeavor. State to Fund Restoration of 29 Wooden Churches in Chernivtsi

Chernivtsi – The regional council in southwestern Ukrainian Chernivtsi (CRC) is planning to give 12,737,000 hryvnias (approximately US $ 2,500,000) for the restoration of 29 wooden churches in various areas of the region. As the press service of the CRC reported to RISU correspondent Yurii Chornei, the session of the CRC adopted complex program 2007-2010 on the preservation and use of objects of cultural heritage in the region. Ukrainian Greek Catholic Theologians Seek to Revive Communion with Orthodox

Chernivtsi – On 25 February 2007, the Ukraine copy of the Shroud of Turin arrived at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in southwestern Ukrainian Chernivtsi. Kyiv – On 23 February 2007, Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), visited Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and greeted him on his birthday. Crimea to Prepare Proposals on Post-Soviet Restoration of Churches’ Rights

Crimea – On 22 February 2007, Yevhenii Mykhailov, first assistant head of the Crimean Council of Ministers, conducted a session of the interdepartmental committee which is to prepare proposals on the restoration of the rights of churches and religious organizations violated during the totalitarian regime of the former USSR. Concrete situations regarding Greek Catholics and Muslims in Yalta were considered.
Dalai Lama Exhibit in Kyiv Closed Early at Chinese Request

Kyiv – On 29 January 2007, a photo exhibit on the life in exile of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, opened in the Ukrainian House in Kyiv. Odesa Denominations Condemn Anti-Semitic Vandalism

Odesa – On 26 February 2007, representatives of more than 40 national societies and religious denominations of southern Ukrainian Odesa signed a joint address condemning the actions of vandals who on 18 February desecrated the city’s Monument to Holocaust Victims and 500 graves at the Third Jewish Cemetery.
