Kyiv – On 20 December 2007, at the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves, Archishop Dymytrii (Rudiuk) of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) met with Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). With the blessing of Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the UOC-KP, Archbishop Dymytrii gave the head of the UOC-MP an official address to the bishops, clergy and faithful, signed by members of the Holy Synod of the UOC-KP.

Sumy – On 19 December 2007, at the Holy Resurrection Cossack Cathedral, Bishop Mefodii (Sribniak) of Sumy and Okhtyrka of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) awarded Zinovii Huzar, deputy governor of northern Ukraine’s Sumy Region, the Order of Prince Volodymyr the Great, 2nd degree, for the spiritual revival and establishment of a national church. “I am grateful that our joint work for the revival of faith, morals, and spirituality was so highly assessed,” noted Huzar.

Ternopil – The Chapel of the Holy Protection was blessed by Archbishop Iov (Pavlyshyn) of Ternopil and Kremenets’ of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) at the initiative of the Ukrainian Cossacks in an ancient fortress in western Ukrainian Ternopil on 19 December 2007. The Cossack leaders said that the chapel will be their official place for prayer, whereas the blessed castle will be the place for future all-Ukrainian councils, as RISU correspondent Volodymyr Moroz reported.

Moscow-Kyiv – In a letter of 18 December 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the activities of the “Ukrainian side” are “directed at the schism of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.” Putin wrote an official letter to Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, responding to an earlier address of Yushchenko regarding problems in the activities of the only library of Ukrainian literature in Russia.
