Sevastopol – On 25 November 2006, the faithful of St. Clement’s Parish in southern Ukrainian Sevastopol held a prayer service on the steps of the former Catholic church building, which is currently occupied by the children’s cinema Friendship. Later, Roman Catholic Bishop Bronislaw Bernacki and Fr. Leonid Tkachuk, pastor of the St. Clement’s community, celebrated Mass in front of the cinema.

Kherson – On 20 November 2006, the Regional Administration of southern Ukrainian Kherson (KRA) held a meeting with local religious leaders, the second this fall. The main topic discussed was preparation for the commemoration of victims of holodomors (man-made famines of 1921-2, 1932-3, and after World War II) and political repressions, which was marked on 25 November. Zhytomyr – Cossack Marshal Dmytro Sahaidak, chief otaman (military leader) of Ukraine and the diaspora and leader of the organization Zaporizhzhia Cossackhood, visited Zhytomyr, Novohrad-Volynskyi, Shepetivka, Slavuta and Netishyn. Before his trip, Sahaidak prayed with the monks at the Pochaiv Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). At the monastery he met with Archbishop Volodymyr (Moroz) of the UOC-MP and together they “set common strategy and tactics.” ria.ua posted the news on 27 November 2006.

Kyiv – Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, led a panakhyda (memorial service) at St. Sophia’s Cathedral in Kyiv on 25 November 2006 for the victims of holodomors (man-made famines of 1921-2 and 1932-3) and political repressions of the communist totalitarian regime. Also in attendance were Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim leaders. According to preliminary research data, nearly 16.5 million Ukrainians died during several holodomors.

Five addresses and an open letter to the government and the public were adopted.

Shcherbinka, Russia – Archimandrite Ioan (Zynoviev) was ordained bishop of Zaporizhzhia and “Little Russia” at the cathedral of the Central Russian Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad under metropolitans Valentyn and Antonii (ROCA V-A) at Shcherbinka (a suburb of Moscow) on 24 November 2006.
