Kyiv – At a press conference on 29 November 2006, the Ukrainian Interchurch Council (UIC) released an official statement which emphasizes that decree #1575 of Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers from 8 November on the establishment of a State Committee on Matters of Nationalities and Religions, “wishing to return to the former rigid control and interference of the state in the life of the churches, evokes the concern of bishops, priests, and Christians.”
