Kyiv – On 12 December 2006, Heorhii Popov, acting head of Ukraine’s State Committee on Matters of Religion and Nationalities, visited the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves, where he had an official meeting with Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). At the meeting the two discussed further church-state cooperation.

Movie on Greek Catholic Head Sheptytsky being Filmed in Ukraine

Kyiv – The Ukrainian government has promised 8 million hryvnias (approximately US $ 1.6 million) for the production of a historical feature film “His Grace Andrey.” This is the first time that Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from 1901 to 1944, will be a movie hero. Kyiv Caves Monastery Head Proposes No Entry Fee on Weekends, Holy Days

Kyiv – Archbishop Pavlo (Lebid), superior of the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves, has suggested that no admission fee be charged to enter the territory of the monastery on Saturday, Sundays, and holy days. He said this at a press conference on 11 December 2006. According to him, all money goes not to the church but to the state-run preserve on the territory of which the monastery is located.

Kyiv – On 10 December 2006, Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP), received Bishop John Knight, consultant for the General Secretary’s Office of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The bishop was accompanied by Fr. Dr. Peter Galadza, founder of the Institute of Liturgical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University. In the course of the meeting, the head of the UOC-KP underlined how warm relations are between the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine and the UOC-KP.
