Donetsk – On 26 September 2005, RISU received an open letter from Bishop Yurii (Yurchyk) of eastern Ukrainian Donetsk of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP). The bishop addresses the head of the Donetsk Regional Administration, the mayor, and the prosecutor with a request “to give a legal assessment of the interference of Metropolitan Ilarion (Shukalo) of Donetsk and Mariupol of the UOC-MP [Moscow-Patriarchate] in the internal affairs of the UOC-KP [Kyivan Patriarchate] and to remind the clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate that in Ukraine there is no monopoly on religious life and all churches are equal before the law.”

Lviv – The 333rd plenary meeting of the Conference of Polish Bishops (CPB) was held in Wroclaw on 22-24 September 2005. The bishops of Poland and Germany signed a common address on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the exchange of reconciliation letters. Lviv – The Caritas Ukraine organization has launched a new program for children. Kyiv - A joint meeting of the plenipotentiary Committees on the Unification of Churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), blessed by the heads of the UOC-KP and the UAOC, took place in Kyiv on 15 September 2005. As a result of their work, the committees came to a common vision of the importance and ways to unite the UOC-KP and the UAOC into a single Ukrainian national Orthodox church. The committees agreed to continue their work regarding the unification of the UOC-KP and the UAOC.
