Uzhhorod- O. Havashi, head of the Regional Administration in southwestern Ukrainian Transcarpathia (TRA), and M. Popovych, acting deputy head of the TRA, on 23 November 2005 conducted the first meeting of the Council of Churches and Religious Organizations at the TRA, with representatives of various religious denominations participating.

Moscow, 1 December 2005, Interfax - The Union of Orthodox Citizens of Ukraine (UOCU) and the Progressive Socialist Party held a rally in Kyiv on 1 December against Ukraine’s joining NATO and “for the rebirth of the union of the Orthodox nations of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.” The rally was planned to coincide with the EU-Ukraine Summit held on the same day.

Kyiv, 27 November 2005, Interfax - Celebrations held recently to mark the 70th birthday of Metropolitan Volodymyr, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), became an occasion for Orthodox churches throughout the world to express their solidarity with the UOC-MP, which is experiencing difficulties because of a schism in Orthodoxy in Ukraine. Thirteen prominent representatives out of fifteen autocephalous churches came to Kyiv and they all, speaking on behalf of their primates, expressed support for the head of the UOC-MP.

Kyiv— Valerii Kaurov, leader of the Union of Orthodox Citizens of Ukraine (UOCU), held an Internet conference at the web-site from-ua.com. He talked about himself, his religious and political views, the activities of the UOCU and what unites it with Ukraine’s Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) of Natalia Vitrenko. RISU’s Ukrainian-language site posted the news on 29 November 2005.

Lviv — Myroslav Danylkiv, head of the organizing committee of the all-Ukrainian civic association Christian Ukraine, on 25 November 2005 released a statement in which he refutes information posted by from-ua.com and the newspaper “Segodnia” (Today) about demands of the civil organization of parishioners of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Christian Ukraine to transfer St. Sophia’s Cathedral in Kyiv to the faithful of the UGCC.
