The 250 organizations in more than 80 cities attest to the rebirth of Jewish life in Ukraine. Ukraine boasts dozens of organized religious and cultural events, day schools, yeshivot, Hebrew and Sunday schools. Synagogues and mikvahs (ritual bathhouses) function in numerous locations, and a number of rabbis serve as religious leaders. Many different Jewish religious and cultural groups operate in Ukraine. Chabad has full time rabbis in 14 cities and maintains a presence in every major Ukrainian city. Its activities have played a major role in Ukraine's Jewish revival.
Two major goals of the Jewish community continue to be the effort to reclaim nationalized Jewish property and to alleviate the widespread poverty among Jews. Ukraine has 14 pre-schools, 14 day-schools and 74 supplementary schools, serving a total of 8100 students. The Jewish community publishes several newspapers and magazines, as well as producing a weekly television program. The Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine is a full member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Commonwealth of Independent States and holds a permanent seat on the executive committee.
