Population

The present population of approximately 49,000,000 is aging and with a non-replacement birth rate is declining. The main ethnic composition is 73% Ukrainian, 23% Russian and 2% Jewish. The Russian population is found mainly in the center and east of the country where, under the soviet system, the native Ukrainian population was subjected to genocide on a vast scale.
